Framed engraving measuring 21.5 x 17.5 inches, depicting mounted soldiers entering the Berger Tor (Berger Gate) in Düsseldorf. The composition is after Wilhelm Schreuer (1866-1933) and engraved by Frank Willis (1865-1932), A.R.E. Both artists' pencil signatures are present: Schreuer at the upper left, Willis in the lower margin. A second pencil signature also appears but is not fully legible.

Subject & Historical Context
The scene shows cavalry passing through the historic Berger Tor, a major Düsseldorf city gate rebuilt in 1751 and demolished in 1895. The inscription above the arch-worn but consistent with "REAEDIFICATUM MDCCLI" ("rebuilt 1751")-matches the documented reconstruction date.
Schreuer, associated with the Düsseldorf School, frequently depicted military and civic procession themes. Willis, an accomplished engraver, reproduced several Düsseldorf subjects during the 1890s, when both artists were connected through the Eduard Schulte Gallery.
